What Happens in psychotherapy sessions?
There are no rigid guidelines. Conversations are different to what is experienced elsewhere and they should feel intriguing. They may also feel erratic, inconsistent and fraught with a resistance that makes you want to quit. Ideally you’ll find yourself getting curious about what is making you think, feel and behave in the way you do. If this isn’t happening you need to be honest with me so we can find a new way forward.
Don’t expect an overnight miracle. Coming to a couple of sessions in the hope of getting everything sorted is a little like going to the gym twice and expecting bigger muscles, though having said that, some symptom relief can occur quite rapidly. As a rule, and at the very least, some change should occur within 10-15 sessions. This change may not be a cure, but a clear difference in the way you think feel or act. It can be much quicker. Generally speaking, the more embedded a behaviour is in your personality the longer it will take to uproot it. Bear in mind therapy is not an all-or-nothing proposition.

My practice is located in Tiverton, within few miles of Cullompton. I am no longer offering sessions in Banstaple.
I am available for consultations weekdays only. I offer a small number of evening appointments.
